Located in Saudi Arabia, NEOM is a groundbreaking smart city that is redefining the boundaries of innovation, sustainability, and urban design. Positioned as the “New Future,” this ambitious megaproject is more than just a city - it represents a global prototype for future societies, powered by artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and circular economy principles. Aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, NEOM aims to reshape how we live, work, and interact with the environment on a global scale.

The Regions
The construction of NEOM is occurring in real time as a part of the country’s Vision 2030 - intending to help diversify the economy beyond oil.
The Line: One of NEOM’s most groundbreaking concepts - a 170-kilometer-long linear city designed with no cars, no roads, and zero carbon emissions. In pursuit of a fully sustainable urban model, The Line will be powered entirely by renewable energy, including solar, wind, and green hydrogen.
Oxagon: Focused on advanced manufacturing, sustainable industry and AI-driven logistics, the Oxagon is envisioned as the world’s largest floating complex. Its distinctive octagonal shape is not just a bold architectural choice; it’s a practical one. The compact, geometric layout helps minimise urban sprawl, allowing more efficient land use and significantly reducing its environmental footprint.
Sindalah: One of NEOM’s first luxury tourism destinations, set on a pristine island in the Red Sea. As the first NEOM region set to open to the public, Sindalah aims to position Saudi Arabia as a global hub for premium tourism, blending natural beauty with cutting-edge hospitality. Sindalah will feature marinas for super-yachts, exclusive resorts, fine dining, and wellness centres, all surrounded by vibrant coral reefs and marine life.
Trojena: NEOM’s visionary mountain destination, set high in the Sarawat Mountains, Trojena redefines adventure and wellness in the heart of the desert. Designed as a year-round haven, Trojena will offer outdoor skiing, snowboarding, and mountain sports in winter, alongside hiking, wellness retreats, and luxury lakeside living throughout the year. Anchored by striking architecture and powered entirely by renewable energy, Trojena blends natural beauty with futuristic design, positioning itself as a global benchmark for sustainable mountain tourism and lifestyle.
The Backbone of NEOM’s Connected Society
NEOM leverages a comprehensive suite of cutting-edge technologies used to establish an integrated, intelligent urban environment. Central to its digital backbone is the deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) networks, which will embed sensors throughout the city’s infrastructure to collect and transmit real-time data on everything from traffic flows and energy consumption to environmental conditions. This vast data ecosystem will be processed through advanced Artificial Intelligence that enables predictive analytics, autonomous decision-making, and dynamic optimization of services.
Recognizing the critical importance of security, NEOM plans to employ zero-trust cybersecurity frameworks, incorporating AI-driven threat detection, blockchain-based data integrity verification, and end-to-end encryption protocols to safeguard resident data and critical infrastructure.
Collectively, these advanced technologies constitute the robust digital backbone that underpin NEOM’s vision of a seamless, secure, and sustainable smart city.
Resilience and Disaster Preparedness
Advanced Early Warning Systems:
NEOM will integrate real-time environmental monitoring with AI-powered predictive analytics to detect and respond to potential natural disasters, such as sandstorms, floods, and seismic activity, before they escalate. This ensures timely alerts and minimizes response time.
Integrated Crisis Management Platforms:
NEOM is developing centralized digital platforms to coordinate disaster response across multiple agencies. These systems will integrate data from IoT sensors, satellite feeds, and weather models in real time. It also facilitates multi-agency coordination, ensuring that law enforcement and emergency medical services operate with synchronized intelligence and resource allocation. Automated workflows will trigger specific emergency protocols, such as targeted evacuations, rerouting of autonomous transport, and real-time public communications.
Decentralized Energy Grids:
NEOM’s renewable energy systems are supported by decentralized micro-grids. Therefore, in the event of a grid failure or cyberattack, these decentralized systems can isolate affected nodes and redirect energy flows, maintaining operational continuity for critical infrastructure such as hospitals, data centers, and emergency shelters. The integration of blockchain-based energy tracking and AI-driven demand forecasting further enhances system reliability, efficiency, and transparency.
Conservation and Livability
In today’s climate, environmental conservation is more important than ever, and NEOM is embracing this urgency at its core. The project has been pledged to preserve 95% of its natural surroundings, integrating cities seamlessly with the landscape rather than overwhelming it. By prioritizing green spaces, clean energy, and walkable communities, NEOM promotes a lifestyle centered on well-being, sustainability, and harmony with nature—offering a vision of livability that balances innovation with environmental responsibility.
For example, by constructing much of ‘The Oxagon’ floating on the Red Sea, the structure avoids damaging extensive stretches of coastline, preserving the region’s delicate marine ecosystems, positioning The Oxagon as a potential global model for the future of industrial development.

Creating a Sustainable Economy
Leveraging integrated smart infrastructure and AI-powered resource optimization, NEOM minimizes environmental externalities by enhancing energy efficiency and reducing waste through precision monitoring and predictive analytics. The city is designed to operate as a circular economy, embedding principles such as material reuse, closed-loop production, and sustainable supply chain management to significantly lower resource consumption and emissions.
In this sense, the fostering of innovative ecosystems is crucial to NEOM’s vision. By investing in research and development hubs, and partnerships with global technology leaders, the commercialization of breakthrough technologies in biotechnology, robotics, and clean energy will be made possible. This innovation-driven model not only stimulates economic growth but also creates high-skilled employment opportunities, promoting social inclusion and workforce resilience.
NEOM’s commitment to sustainability is further reinforced through green financing mechanisms, aiming to direct capital toward green investments, such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable agriculture. These regulatory frameworks act as an incentive in promoting sustainable business practices and responsible investment.
NEOM represents a transformative vision for the future of urban development—one that seamlessly integrates advanced technologies, environmental stewardship, and socio-economic resilience. As a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, this pioneering initiative is redefining the parameters of sustainable living and smart city design on a global scale.
As NEOM transitions from blueprint to built environment, it serves as a strategic prototype for next-generation urbanism - offering a replicable framework for smart, sustainable, and human-centric cities worldwide.
